Bill Sydeman participated in the Sardine Working Group organized by the Ocean Modeling Forum, and their final meeting took place in Seattle, WA, on June 29-30. The group convened to investigate how ecosystem models can be used to evaluate aspects of the sardine Harvest Control Rule. The primary research question for the working group was: What are the consequences of the existing sardine Harvest Control Rule for 1) the sardine stock, spatial distribution, yield, and revenue, 2) sardine predators and prey, and 3) ecosystem metrics such as the balance between different energy pathways. More information on the working group can be found here.
