Trond Kristiansen, Ph.D.

Research Interests

  1. Ecology of early life stages of fish with a focus on understanding how environmental conditions shape survival, growth, and distributions of marine species (Romagnoni et al. 2020; Clavel-Henry et al. 2018; Kristiansen et al. 2009).

  2. Understanding and describing ecosystem processes, dynamics, and variability (Kristiansen et al. 2009; Jansen et al. 2016).

  3. Providing an improved mechanistic understanding of ecosystem-level consequences of climate change (Kristiansen et al. 2014, Kristiansen et al. 2011, Drinkwater and Kristiansen 2018).

Current Projects

Marine Fisheries Climate Adaptation Plan for the Quinault Indian Nation. This project investigates how fisheries will be impacted by climate change in the Quinault region of Washington State.

FutureMares examines the relations between climate change, marine biodiversity and ecosystem services. The goal is to provide science-based policy advice on how best to use NBS to protect future biodiversity and ecosystem services in a future climate (www.futuremares.eu).

Ce2coast focuses on the observation-driven synthesis of statistical and dynamical downscaling methodology. The regionally downscaled climate products will be used to deliver estimates of natural and forced variability of oceanic processes as well as regional and local mean states and trends of pressures on ocean services (www.ce2coast.com).
