Farallon Institute seeks to hire a full-time Research Assistant in Oceanography and Climate Studies

Position Description

The successful candidate will assist with a wide variety of projects within Farallon Institute in coordination with a team of interdisciplinary marine scientists including biological, fisheries, computer, and environmental scientists. The research assistant’s main responsibility will be curation and analysis of physical data, including in-situ, satellite, climate, and modeled data. Other responsibilities will include working closely with PIs to provide technical support on publications, presentations, and communications and outreach. 

Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate with a Master’s degree in physical oceanography, environmental or marine sciences. We would consider statistics and data science if there is a strong interest in marine sciences, or Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of work experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent Python coding skills, familiarity with statistical analyses, and a strong interest in marine ecosystems and fisheries management. Experience in cloud computing and large datasets on ocean temperature and salinity would be helpful. We are looking for an assistant with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal and writing skills. Moreover, we seek a self-motivated person to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team of oceanographers, ecologists, and atmospheric scientists.
